a rose by any other name

If you have been reading my last couple posts I have been crocheting a lot lately and mentioned that besides making the usual hats and scarves I am also making jewelry. Now you can see a sample! I am crocheting bib necklaces and headbands and doily type things and using polymer clay to make roses as accents. Next goal: create enough to start my own etsy store. Next problem: what the hell do I name it?

in my olive drabs

Olive drab was a term for military uniforms back in the day. I figured it was quite appropriate considering this whole outfit is military-ish, from the military style coat, olive tones, and lace up cap-toed boots. Yes, usually too much of any trend is bad but I like to think I was into military garb way before it was a trend... so there. Seems like all my outfits have been beigy grays, olive, and black lately so I am sparing you the variety of similar looks. Also, I am lazy, at least with blogging. I have on the other hand been very busy crocheting. My last trip to the craft store got a question from the super sweet check-out chick about what in the world kind of project I'm working on because of the huge variety and sheer amount of yarn I was buying. The answer is this: hats, scarves, dog sweaters, and jewelry. It' surprisingly consuming. I guess I haven't felt like painting lately and crocheting and knitting is so easily transportable. I can take it to work and chat with my girls at lunch while my hands busily loop and hook away. If you've never tried it, I highly recommend it even though you will get grandma jokes from your friends.

how to stay warm

The easiest way to stay warm? Pile on neutrals! Grays and beiges and olive and tan make up this outfit. I would like to point out my new bag! It's a lovely retro style messenger bag made out of recycled leather (which leaves my vegetarian-animal loving self guilt free). Since I stopped buying new leather items I have been searching for recycled and fake leather bags but seriously... there is nothing like a smooshy soft leather. This bag was custom made for me by the lovely Christine of Rookie Rags. Find her here on etsy. It is so lovely and carefully made! I have no idea how she can work so well with leather. It looks professionally made and has gotten me a bunch of compliments already. I have no doubt I will be buying from her again.

brunette bangs

I got bored again and dyed my hair dark chocolate brown and cut some blunt bangs. I'm really happy with it and even went to get my blonde eyebrows and eyelashes tinted for the first time. The eyebrows turned out awesome. I've never been able to see them before just the powder shadow I fill them in with. I was hoping having tinted eyelashes would mean no more mascara...not really the case. Without makeup you can see all the way to the tips of my lashes now but they aren't black enough for me personally not to wear mascara. Either way I still feel like it was a worthwhile investment.

What to do with an old frame

I have a tendency to save things. Call me a hoarder if you want, but as an artist, I feel like there will be a use for everything. Today I realized that I had enough postcards to hang them together... so the use for this frame finally became apparent. I took eyelet screws from a regular picture framing kit and hung string between them in three rows. Then paperclipped the postcards to the string, simple right?! I already have plans to buy some regular closepins to hang watercolors in the same manner to even larger frames I've been keeping on my balcony for two years while I thought of a reason to use them. Hoarder maybe, but I'm glad now I kept them!
