Badass zebra mani

This is my second time using Sally Hansen Salon Effects nail polish strips. I highly recommend giving them a try. They are super easy to use unlike the ones you have to warm up to make malleable. Just peel and stick. They are cheaper than most of the other polish strips too. I found that they lasted much longer than the 10 days advertised. Mine lasted over 2 weeks. This time my nails are so short I cut them in half and will get two uses out of this package. One note: I put a fast drying top coat over them last time thinking it would help them to last but instead it made the edges tighten and peel up slightly.

friggin cinderella

I'm really only posting this so I can tell this story... So I'm walking into work this morning when 4 little girls' faces light up and they come running up and hug me...and say "she's a princess! she's a princess!"... All I could think to do was of course hug them back and say thank you. I mean really, this is not the first time a little girl has mistaken me for a princess. I'm guessing today it was the pastel colors and headband that did it. Thanks a lot Disney.

right up my alley

This is exciting people! My alma mater (VCU) is back in the NCAA championship. Going to school there as an art student means I was generally too busy painting or matting projects to care about our sports teams...even though I lived beside the Siegel Center... Unfortunately, I don't think I developed any real pride for the school or the city until I left. I wish I had appreciated it more while I was there. The art scene is finally making a name for itself outside of the school. Even the G40 art summit is there this year with graffiti artists like Gaia already painting murals. It's led by RVA mag and Art Whino gallery (who created the summer art fair, Marcatus, I participate in). Low brow art, graffiti/street art, and tons of vegetarian/vegan restaurants. Richmond is just begging me to come back...

Today's list: Ben sherman shirt dress, BR cardigan and shoes, Chloe shades, vintage belt from estate sale, and yes!!!!!!! my Prada fairy bag illustrated by James Jean!

yup, genius

I don't know why no one has ever thought of this before... I already have my favorite mascaras: YSL faux cils for super-fatty ultra black going out lashes, Josie Maran for natural looking ones, and Maybelline Illegal Length for long defined baby doll ones. But now (thank you for sending me this to review before the release, Anastasia!) there is Lash Genius from Anastasia Beverly Hills that's just a clear topcoat to waterproof any of your favorite mascaras. I tried it out last night. It actually helps comb out and define the mascara you've already used and it is definitely waterproof. Trust me. I even slept in it. This ish will not budge. One note: make sure you get all the way to the base of your lashes with this stuff. Because it's invisible, I missed the area closest to my skin and that area washed off obvi. Coming soon to Sephora!

spring forward

The time change has not treated me well. One stupid hour and I miss my alarms, wake up 2 hours late, and rush to work. On the plus side, it actually feels like spring outside. Mid-70's in March does not suck. Too bad I just know that if I put my sweaters away this early I will jinx everything and cause a blizzard...

pink

Last weekend I went to Hampton Roads Tattoo Fest, which made for a nice random weekend away/road trip. We saw the puzzle man, Ami James (of Miami Ink and NY Ink), live suspensions, wrestling nerds, and booths from tons of shops from all over the country. This is probably the one place a pink-haired girl doesn't stand out :) For the record, these photos make it look super bright magenta; it's less bright and cooler toned IRL.

Today's list: peoples market sweater, BR shirt, LnA skirt, Steve Madden boots, Aridza Bross bag

lush greenery

I just got back from New Orleans last week, my first visit, and I loved it! The french quarter is full of the most adorable old houses, boutiques, antique shops, galleries, and bangin' food. We were there for Mardi Gras so we got to see the costumes on Bourbon St and the parades going down Canal. Being back at work was kind of a bummer after mornings of live jazz and beignets... If you have never been, I highly recommend a visit, especially for the artist-types.

Today's list: thrifted green velvet full length dress, minkpink drapy cardi, vintage green belt (my mom's), nine west shoes, toms sunglasses, and skull necklace purchased at an awesome eco-friendly/local artisan store on Magazine in Nola.
