right up my alley

This is exciting people! My alma mater (VCU) is back in the NCAA championship. Going to school there as an art student means I was generally too busy painting or matting projects to care about our sports teams...even though I lived beside the Siegel Center... Unfortunately, I don't think I developed any real pride for the school or the city until I left. I wish I had appreciated it more while I was there. The art scene is finally making a name for itself outside of the school. Even the G40 art summit is there this year with graffiti artists like Gaia already painting murals. It's led by RVA mag and Art Whino gallery (who created the summer art fair, Marcatus, I participate in). Low brow art, graffiti/street art, and tons of vegetarian/vegan restaurants. Richmond is just begging me to come back...

Today's list: Ben sherman shirt dress, BR cardigan and shoes, Chloe shades, vintage belt from estate sale, and yes!!!!!!! my Prada fairy bag illustrated by James Jean!

...fierce

I don't know how it can possibly be the middle of December already. The past few months have been so busy they flew by. I was hoping to catch some holiday spirit in NYC on Saturday. The store windows were pretty enough, it was SantaCon so the streets were filled with thousands of drunk santas, and I saw the tree in Rock. Plaza but I have to admit, it still doesn't really feel like Christmas. One of the highlights was that I did see Christian Siriano on the street with presumably two assistants and lots of shopping bags...fierce.

this blouse

I don't really know why I love it. I like the retro color, the teeny print, the shoulder pleats, the fact that the shoulder pads were so big that even I could not leave them in, the fact that it's vintage Pierre Cardin and it only cost me $3. But really, this is an ugly blouse.

Today's list: vintage Pierre Cardin blouse, BR skirt, Corso Como heels, and Prada bag

The belt post

This post is purely about the belt. I got it at an estate sale with a bunch of other old 70's things. The center is all feathers and looks like an eye. I could not be more in love with a random accessory. By the way, it was $1!

Madmen on acid

I am completely obsessed with Madmen and especially the costume and set design. What I wouldn't give to look like Joan or Betty... Here is my updated version: vintage shaped dress with collar and big fat belt to pull it in, classic cardigan and wedge heels, and big round shades... all with a high dose of neon.

Today's list: thrifted dress that still had the tags on (I saved like $250), gap shoes and cardi, prada sunnies, and vintage belt (my mom's from the 70's)

holy anniversary!

I just realized that my 1 year blog-iversary came and went. My first post was August 12th of last year. So to celebrate I am holding a giveaway of one of my collected bags. This is a brown vintage coach bag with long strap, perfect to wear cross-body. There's yankee candles in one of the freshest scents and butter london nail polish in Pearly Queen. I will have a couple other surprise goodies inside. To enter you must be in the continental US and be following this blog and leave a comment on this post. A winner will be chosen November 1st, 2010. A comment post number will be picked randomly by using http://www.random.org/
Good Luck!

hello, spring? are you there?

It is surprisingly nice outside this week. It actually feels like spring might be coming after the most snow we've seen here in years. Apparently the Canada geese agree, I've been seeing and hearing them fly over already. Hopefully nature knows something we don't and spring is coming! The nice weather is the perfect excuse to put away some of my boots and bring out the peep toes. This utterly retro lace top is another hand-me-down. Not a flattering shape, but the lace and high collar so so fun! Also, Neiman Marcus has declared relaxed pants a spring trend. I have to agree with them because at the moment my favs are my harem pants, some loose draw string pants from last post, and some wide casual cargo-ish pants. They are so comfy and soft, it's the perfect transition for me, since I've been so stuck on super soft leggings all winter, I'd hate to be wearing stiff trousers or rigid jeans now.

Today's list: vintage lace blouse, theory harem pants, gap wedge peep toe shoes, aridza bross bag, balenciaga sunglasses, and banana republic gray cardi

hand-me-downs

I LOVE THIS BLAZER! This giant plaid blazer has the best giant shoulder pads. Man, vintage stuff is fun to wear. It was given to me, as was the lace top under my sweater. I have taken on the reputation of wearing old weird vintage items. It's true, I love out-dated 80s stuff to mix into my wardrobe and I would much rather wear clothes from my friends (or their moms) than from a stranger at a thrift store :)

Today's list: old navy sweater dress, vs leggings, frye boots, vintage blazer, prada sunglasses, random lace top, balenciaga flat brass first bag

a little bit country, a little bit chic

I got a bunch of hand-me-downs from my best friends mom. THANKYOU! I love anything unique and vintage-y so this tiny red and white checked shirt were right up my alley. It might look a little like a picnic table cloth but I love it.

Today's list: checked shirt (vintage), zara cream lace blazer, express cuffed brown pants, nine west boots, prada shades and bag and my fave early 60s thrifted coat

winter wonderland

I have to admit as sick as I am of winter, this morning was actually beautiful with the freshly fallen snow still covering all the trees. I wish I had thought to pull out my camera, by the time lunch time rolled around it had all melted off. No worries though, this weekend we're going to get another foot or so, leaving plenty more photo opportunities. I just grabbed comfy clothes that I knew would be warm today. Only problem is the buttons are slowly falling off this coat, I wear it so much. Oh well...

Today's list: limited gray dress and sweater, mbmj leggings, london fog boots, vintage faux fur coat, prada shades, and aridza bross bag

It snowed again, with forecasts showing more again at the end of this week. Here's a pic of Porsche watching the snow fall out the window as well as my outfit for today.

Today's list: banana republic cropped cardi, torn by ronny kobo tiger tank top, dvf snow leopard leggings, prada shades, aridza bross bag, vintage faux fur coat, london fog boots
